Hillshire Farm Lil Smoky Mummies Recipe for Halloween #BringHillshireHome

It’s Fall which means change of weather, leaves falling off the trees, and two of my favorite celebrations, Halloween and ThanksGiving.  When I think Fall I think “Food”.   I love Halloween mostly for my kids. The Trick Or Treating, dressing up as their favorite characters, and creating different and scary new foods.   I’m not sure why but this is the time of year when there are so many parties/get togethers. This weekend there are tons of Halloween parties going on that me and the hubs wanted to go to, but instead we are staying home with the kids and relaxing, taking a break. I think we are still worn from our Californnia vacation 2 weeks ago. (I would BARELY) call it a vacation, but it was a nice change of scenery for my kids.

On our “stay in night” we all took a trip to our local Safeway to pick up some snacks and groceries, and we decided to purchase Hillshire Farm Beef Smokies. We have always enjoyed Hillshire Products but today we decided to create an appetizer with our dinner which consisted of a chicken and fully loaded mashed potatoes.  Yum Yum.

Safeway is offering some fabulous deals right now both on their website and in-store.  The Just For You Program is one of the reasons Safeway is and will always be my favorite grocery store.   When you sign up for the program you can customize your profile according to your likes and needs in an extremely organized way .  It costs nothing and allows you to search for coupons and deals all for free.  Create and edit your grocery list right there in your profile so when you visit the store you have your coupons and your list in order.  You know exactly what you’re looking for and what the cost is, how much you will save. Sticking to your budget has never been easier.

The website is super easy to use, even my husband was able to maneuver through it, (that’s saying a lot, he is NOT computer savvy) If you’re interested in signing up for the program, AND receiving free Hillshire Farm coupons, here is the link you will need.  Since the holidays are right around the corner, and it’s football season, there’s nothing better then appetizers and finger foods to snack on while hanging out with your family or sitting around the TV. I’ve also been trying to include more protein into my kid’s meals and it’s been quite a struggle.  Their diet consists of fruits yes, but mac and cheese, cheese sandwiches, quesadillas, burritos, tacos.. but just cheese and no meats.

Since we were planning on attending a Halloween party this Friday night, it only seemed fitting to create something we could bring to the party AND was Halloween themed. So what better idea then Mummy Dogs? Basically a pigs in the blanet, only using something much better then your normal hot dog, Hillshire Farm Beef Lil Smokies. Mila saw the picture  of what the dish is “supposed” to look like  and was already excited to create her own. And wow, my husband helped too!

Want to make your own for Halloween? Hopefully yours will turn out a little bit better … We discovered using the small sausage links made it extremely difficult to wrap the croissant around the actual sausage more then once.

You will need… 20-32 lil smokie sausage links

– can of croissant rolls (refrigerated)

– ketcup and.or mustard for the face (and possibly something to draw the face on with)

– Preheat the oven to 375

– Separate the croissant  separate at perforations,  creating 4 rectangles. Press perforations to seal. (If this is confusing to you, there is also a Youtube video that discusses this and shows it more in detail)

– With a knife or pizza cutter cut each rectangle lengthwise into 8 strips making a total of 32 strips. Wrap one strip of dough around each Lil Smokies stretching dough slightly to look like bandages, leaving tip exposed to create face. Place on ungreased cookie sheet This part was kind of a pain and really can be done your own way. Smaller strips work much easier when working when such small sausages.

Finally bake dough 13-20 minutes or until  the breading is golden brown and the hot dogs are hot. Use mustard to draw on the face. (Or in my case if your kids don’t like mustard, ketcup!!!)

Here is the end result. Spooky Mummy Dogs!! Sorry, their faces got a little messy as my kids messed with them!! So simple, easy and delicious!
